  1. In the late '40's my grandparents went with friends of theirs on a transcontinental road trip. During the course of the trip, they stopped at Wall Drugs in South Dakota. There, my grandfather had his picture taken on a bucking bronco (stuffed, of course). Now, Grandan (as in Grandan, dandy) was a horseman of some local repute, so he naturally made the most of the photo.

About two years later, my dad had been recalled to active duty in the Navy for the Korean War. He packed my mother, sister and I in the car and off we went to San Diego to stay with him when his ship was in port. On the way, we went through the badlands and stopped at Wall Drugs where my mother put me on the same stuffed horse and took my picture so she could send it to her father just to prove that great horsemanship ran in the family!

From there, we visited Mt. Rushmore and then crossed over into Newcastle, WY. While in Newcastle, I had a run in with the sheriff and we faced down on the street where I beat him to the draw. There may be some folks in town that remember the showdown, or not! It was sure fun for a 10-year old.

We're enjoying your trip almost as much as you guys.
